I went to my first basketball game when I was about five. It was exciting-my whole family went to the stadium at what was then called Southwest Texas State College and watched the girls basketball team from Dime Box play another team. Oh, I wanted to play like those girls! I practiced dribbling for hours. Dribbling was and still is my best basketball skill. I've never played on a team, but I still like watching the games.

My son played basketball when he was a freshman in high school. At one of the games, there was a guy on the opposing team who played the entire time with a big smile on his face. You could tell he loved playing. Watching games like those inspired this poem.

THE TEAM

We play basketball

All for one, one for all.

We dribble, drive

Juke and jive.

Pass, feint,

Get in the paint.

Jump, soar,

Dunk and score.

High five!

Look alive!

We are a team

Part of a dream.

We give our all.

We play basketball.
